Wondwosen Legesse now works for the Ethiopian government’s electrical authorities, being the first student to graduate from his project. He is twenty years old and has a brother and two sisters. His father died when he was four, leaving his mother to raise the family. His mother was unable to work and he stated that “Compassion was their everything.”
Wondwosen says that before he came to know the Lord, the best thing about being in the Compassion project was the project trips they took twice a year to various educational and interactive places. He speaks highly of his Sunday School teacher who, with patience, loved and cared for him even though he was rebellious. Wondwosen spoke enthusiastically about his sponsor who wrote words of encouragement to him about 5 times a year. “They gave me optimism and encouragement to aim high.”
We asked Wondwosen where he thinks he would be without Compassion. He put his head in his hands for a moment and replied “I cannot even begin to imagine where I would be today without Compassion, but I know this, I would not be here or have achieved so much.”
The support and encouragement of knowing that his sponsors were praying for him has enabled him to support and encourage the young people in his community. He now leads the youth group and sings in the Church choir. Wondwosen thanks God for what He has done in his life and for initiating practical and spiritual support from his sponsors.
We are looking forward to sharing these graduate stories with our own sponsor children tomorrow and encouraging them to become all they can be in Christ.

We hope Church was good for you today, and we are praying for the meetings with the sponsored children tomorrow. What an occasion that will be!!

It's great to hear what the older graduates are putting back into their community. It's like dividends being re-invested!
