Welcome

Welcome to the Advocates' tour to Ethiopia website.

Here you can keep up to date with the activities of our group of advocates as we travel to Ethiopia from the 20th to the 31st of May 2009 to see the work of Compassion.Advocates are sponsors with a heart for our ministry who volunteer some of their time on an ongoing basis to promote Compassion in their churches and within their spheres of influence.

The team will spend time meeting staff and children in projects, visiting the homes of Compassion sponsored children, seeing how the country office operates and meeting formerly sponsored children. We will try to update the site each day whilst we are in Ethiopia and we hope you find it interesting. Enjoy!

Tales from Ethiopia

Greetings from Ethiopia to relatives and friends in Carrville and other parts of the UK. Today we had church Ethiopian style. Alison, your sermons are short in comparison to those here! We were there two and a half hours! This afternoon was sight-seeing in the mountains, potentially great views of Addis but it was a bit overcast. This evening we met six young people who have passed through ‘the system’, and are now successfully employed and looking after their families. The great thing is they are all now committed Christians and expressed their thanks for the chance, given to them via Compassion, and their sponsors,to make something of their lives.

Tomorrow I’ll be meeting the little girl we sponsor, Eman, and I’m feeling a bit apprehensive. No doubt she’ll be very shy at first, but we have all day to spend with our children, so no doubt, by the end of that time we’ll be great friends.

I have so many stories to tell you already but I’m making notes, so hopefully I’ll be able to recall it all when I get home. Be prepared to be swamped by tales from Ethiopia. Missing you all. God bless. If you click on ‘Comments’ in other blogs you’ll get information re our journey etc..

  1. Hi Dorothy
great to hear all your news - do hope today has gone well and I am sure you and Eman have got on really well together: it will have been so good to meet her! We are following the blog avidly and thinking and praying for you every day. Adam led the Young Peoples' service yesterday morning and he prayed for you, as did Alison in the evening service. Your friends at Carrville hold you and all the Advocates in their thoughts and prayers. Do hope this reaches you!
