We were blessed to share devotions with the country office staff here in Ethiopia this morning. It was wonderful to hear the stories of how God is working through Compassion Ethiopia. One area which touched us was the special care programme for highly vulnerable children. They are currently helping 1,270 orphaned children who would otherwise be living on the streets and involved in risky activities.
As part of Compassion Ethiopia's HIV ministry 513 children and 3,406 guardians are involved in the care and support programme. These people are at risk of being stigmatised in their communities due to their HIV status. The programme extends love to them through health training and provision, education, vocational training, counselling and helping them to access the anti retroviral drugs through the government. Staff spoke passionately about their priority of ensuring each child is nurtured within a family environment.
The sponsor-child relationship was strongly emphasised here with staff testifying to the amazing impact of even a short letter of love and encouragement. It is such a joy for the children to receive their letters reinforcing that they are loved and cared for by their sponsor.
