Welcome

Welcome to the Advocates' tour to Ethiopia website.

Here you can keep up to date with the activities of our group of advocates as we travel to Ethiopia from the 20th to the 31st of May 2009 to see the work of Compassion.Advocates are sponsors with a heart for our ministry who volunteer some of their time on an ongoing basis to promote Compassion in their churches and within their spheres of influence.

The team will spend time meeting staff and children in projects, visiting the homes of Compassion sponsored children, seeing how the country office operates and meeting formerly sponsored children. We will try to update the site each day whilst we are in Ethiopia and we hope you find it interesting. Enjoy!

Our first project visit

We have just returned from our introductory visit at Arat Kilo Addis Kidan Child Development Centre. Down a little, narrow, bumpy lane is a contrast to the local buildings. A brick house with glass and curtains in the windows. This is Arat Kilo New Covenant Baptist Church, a Compassion Ethiopia partner church. A building which since 1995 has seen amazing, life changing stories unfold within its walls.

We heard of over 100 children making personal commitments to Christ! Who in-turn have witnessed to their friends and families resulting in 58 other first time professions of faith in this one project alone. Abera Wondimageng (Project Director), spoke proudly of formally sponsored children, who have gone on to become accountants, teachers, footballers, musicians, chefs, Church workers and Lead Worshippers in the local church to name but a few.

Although this building is a fantastic blessing, it does not belong to the Church but is rented. Add to which the church is ministering to 267 children with only a small space for worship and one other room which our group of 35 filled to capacity.

Another challenge staff are currently facing is the huge rise in inflation due to the global recession which means that our sponsorship monies are not stretching nearly as far as they did.

  1. Good firsthand evidence of the need to increase sponsorship from £18 to £21!

  3. Glad you all arrived safely.
Martyn & Gill if you read this my reading today (thurs) title was God is protecting You..It says
"As God's redeemed child you are loved, valued and protected. So stand on that truth. You may have to fight in a foreign land or live and work in a difficult situation. You may have to endure great hardship for your faith. But understand; God's got too much invested in you to let it be destroyed. Any time satan tries that, God will interrupt his party and say. Take your hand off them, they're Mine! Rejoice, today God is protecting you!

May God,s protection be with you as you carry on with your journey, much love

  4. Thanks for the updates. It's great to hear instantly of how you are getting on. It's lovely to see how many children are being blessed. Hope you also have encouraging news from the Child Survival programme which outweigh the upsetting things you will no doubt see. Praying for you.
    Love Chris & Cheryl
