Welcome

Welcome to the Advocates' tour to Ethiopia website.

Here you can keep up to date with the activities of our group of advocates as we travel to Ethiopia from the 20th to the 31st of May 2009 to see the work of Compassion.Advocates are sponsors with a heart for our ministry who volunteer some of their time on an ongoing basis to promote Compassion in their churches and within their spheres of influence.

The team will spend time meeting staff and children in projects, visiting the homes of Compassion sponsored children, seeing how the country office operates and meeting formerly sponsored children. We will try to update the site each day whilst we are in Ethiopia and we hope you find it interesting. Enjoy!

Meeting Tewodros (25/5/2009)

I woke feeling a mixture of excitement and apprehension. We had a prayer time in the foyer and then went out to meet the children. There was an extra surprise; Tewodros had brought his mother along as well. Happy introductions were followed by a hesitant few minutes as my mind went completely blank. My well rehearsed conversation completely lost! We soon relaxed however, and we looked at some photographs of my family. Tewodros is actually sponsored by my parents and I was keen to make sure that he understood who was who but I needn't have worried as he quickly asked after my nephew by name! We spent the morning in and around the hotel pool and by lunchtime I had had quite enough sun!! Fortunately Tewodros had struck up a friendship with Steve's sponsored child so they returned to the poll with Steve & I sat in the shade chatting to his mum and the project director. All in all a wonderful and completely unforgettable day!!!
