Welcome

Welcome to the Advocates' tour to Ethiopia website.

Here you can keep up to date with the activities of our group of advocates as we travel to Ethiopia from the 20th to the 31st of May 2009 to see the work of Compassion.Advocates are sponsors with a heart for our ministry who volunteer some of their time on an ongoing basis to promote Compassion in their churches and within their spheres of influence.

The team will spend time meeting staff and children in projects, visiting the homes of Compassion sponsored children, seeing how the country office operates and meeting formerly sponsored children. We will try to update the site each day whilst we are in Ethiopia and we hope you find it interesting. Enjoy!

Getting ready

I'm a bit of a fraud here, as it is Andrew typing this and only Carrie-Anne is on the trip - think of me as one of Paul's scribes, or something! Carrie-Anne finds computers crash for her, so leaves this part to me!

At the moment, she is trying really hard to fit 26 kg of luggage into her 20 kg allowance. The plan at the moment is to pay the excess baggage charge of £90! The alternatives are either no gifts for our sponsored child, Tenaye (whose name we may know how to pronounce after the trip) or Carrie-Anne in a reduced set of clothes that start to be less than sociable as the trip progresses!

Personally, I want to wish all of you who are going God's Blessing.
If you have not been on a trip before, it is well worth going, and worth any privation you may suffer. I don't want to put you off, but I had food poisoning for 2 weeks after visiting Peru last year, and I'm still really glad I went - it was life changing.

I'll post more from Carrie-Anne as the trip progresses - if I hear anything.

And please pray for her, as her father was taken into hospital last Friday, suffering simply from old age. However, she believes God still wants her on the trip, and that He will take care of things here while she is away (and afterwards too, of course!)

God bless, Andrew and Carrie-Anne
